Well neither does this one. It's in the front, this rare Avon built, Turbo charged Triumph Acclaim.
Triumph is correct. From 81 to 84, they offered the FWD acclaim in basic and performance versions to the British public. I have to thank the Japanese and the British for their agreement. I mean, when you can't build quality cars worth dick, and you decide to make a limit on the percentage of imported cars sold in the UK (11% imports) then some interesting things occur. Note, the Japanese were ROLLING these things in, in piles, and British Layland wasn't too happy about it, but I guess neither is the big 3 right now in North America.
So Triumph, Honda...what does it all mean? Well, the Japanese manufacturers didn't fight the idea, they agreed with the British to limit the number of cars they were shipping in. But, they are smart, and cunning people and realized that they could by pass this rule by having someone local assemble their cars. Triumph stepped in and started producing the Acclaim...errr...civic.
Avon, as far as I can tell is a British coach builder, known for their Jaguars.
However, Honda didn't stop there. They jumped onto Rover who produced two consecutive models of the 200 series Rover, based on Civic variations.
Now who's going to import the rover nose for the brownie points at a Honda meet?
Now let's not forget the ever so important??? lol, Rover 800 series.....errr Honda Legend! Or the 600, which is just an Accord.
