I can't believe I didn't post this. I must've gotten these images AFTER post most of the Speed Hero Japanese trip.
I was giddy with joy to see one of these for the first time ever in person, and hell, it was in Japan!
That's right, that's a GMC Typhoon. For those that don't know, GMC made some performance trucks in the early 90's called the Syclone and Typhoon. Both turbo charged 4.3 4wd units, capable of 13.4 in the 1/4 mile in STOCK TRIM!
Few people know about these rare trucks, and as I prepare some more Content from my stash of Japan trip photos, you might as well learn about a great, and overlooked vehicle.
GM built a wack load of awesome stuff in the early 90's, not only were they doing well, but they had some creative and talented staff members that knew their 'lifemath' pretty well. Cheap, light platform, + go fast parts bin = fast, cheap fun! Simple really, take the best things that bolt into the truck, and combine them all in one go!
These trucks were amazing, and had a great style too them, but they just weren't hot enough for some people. So someone made them Smoking Hot: Malboro. Re-engineered by one of the great American companies, ASC, the Malboro Syclone was a spicy version of the drab-but-quick black Syclone. Though I love GM's homage to the Model T color choices, Malboro had to have them in Red.
A targa top, with a scrolling rear window, strobes, rims, and more set this rare truck out from what was already an exclusive pack. No Camels here, just a cowboy and his horse....throat, coughing as the cool breeze flew into his lungs at high speed.
Stay tuned for some more coverage from the Japan trip, as well as some more obscure GM's that got squashed by the Corvette. Thank god the SyTy made it through the C-platforms jealous grip.
